The famous medical place located in Binagadi District today is to be a National Ophthalmological Center named after the Academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
This Center has been operating for more than 70 years. This honored history is relied upon the creation, progress of the national ophthalmological science of the institution, provision of the country people with specialized ophthalmological service.
On 21.01.2002 the Institution was awarded to a higher dignity.
By the Order #869 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Heydar Aliyev, the Academy was named by name of the eminent scientist, Academician Z.A.Aliyeva , taking into account invaluable services of the Academecian Zarifa Aliyeva in the progress of national ophthalmology, her efforts in rising of Azerbaijan ophthalmology to the high level and introducing it to the world.
Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva made priceless gifts for the development of the ophthalmologic field as in Azerbaijan, as in former CIS countries. Her monographs, scientific articles keep their urgency up to day and are used as tutorial.
MCC Effort
The center is regularly equipped with innovative equipment. One of the MCC achievements is the choice of the center as the flagship diagnostics of Topcon products.
As of 2002 MCC regularly works with suppliers from Azerbaijan, and conducts training sessions to assess the capabilities of the equipment
In 2019 an innovative optical coherence tomograph Topcon was delivered to the center
